Do you think going to game development track in Computer Science is better than the others?

I really love creating games in C/C++ that's why I'm planning to go to game development track but some people said that creating games won't make you rich. Going to computational or what I mean is focus in creating softwares for companies is better than in games. Should I believe those people? I love creating games. I love also playing games. But what should I do?|||Those people are retarded.

Learning programming is learning programming. Software engineering is software engineering no matter where you go. Taking classes in computer programming as they relate to video games will be very similar to classes in computer programming that relate to software development. As long as you are learning the basic fundamentals of programming and software development then you will be fine.

I wanted to learn programming, but I wanted to go to an online school because I already work full time and I'm a single mother. I found UAT.edu which offers a few of their bachelor programs completely online. I'm currently taking a BS program in software engineering with a concentration in video game programming. When I graduate I don't HAVE to get a job in the video game industry because I will be able to apply my knowledge to any programming or software engineering project - the skills are the same.

That being said - you should also lookup all those facts that talk about how the gaming industry is a multi-million dollar industry or something like that. You can definitely make money going into games -its risky like anything else but you just have to apply yourself and know the right people (which takes some networking).|||I would question whether you really need a degree in game development to work at a gaming company. Strongly question.

I would stick to a straight major, and then you are marketable to more than a niche. A talented software writer can get a job at any software company, a talented game designer is pigeonholed to game development.|||I think the answer above is good.

I also think you should find a job you love and hopefully you will make some money at it. No sense being stuck somewhere you hate. Don't go for a job cause you can "get rich". It doesn't work that way
